Course Leader
Dr. Diana Wehrell-Grabowski, has been a science educator for the past 28 years, as a classroom teacher, teacher trainer, professional staff development instructor, curriculum specialist, keynote speaker, and university professor.
She has been a featured speaker, keynote speaker, and presenter at over 70 educational conferences. Diana is known for her effective and innovative teaching style, as well as being able to captivate, motivate, and inspire participants during all of her presentations. |

Workshop Goal
Participants will develop skills for teaching critical thinking and knowledge of process of inquiry through conducting hands-on-minds-on investigations, discussions, and writing about inquiry-based science investigations via reflective journaling.

Course Objectives
Participants will:
- Increase their science content and pedagogical knowledge
- Discover and practice how inquiry can be used to strengthen critical thinking skills
- Explore the use of science reflective journal writing in the classroom
- Conduct scientific inquiry through hands-on-minds-on investigations

- Questioning techniques to advance inquiry skills in the science classroom.
- Blooms Taxonomy
- Implementing the “scientific process” in science lessons.
- How inquiry-based methods help to promote conceptual change and deeper understanding of science?
- Promoting inquiry through science reflective journals.
- Incorporating project-based investigations
- Incorporating problem-based investigations
Science + Content Covered:
Structure and function applied to all science disciplines:
Biomimicry; Biological Science investigations; Physical Science investigations; Earth and Space Science investigations STEM investigations (project and problem-based investigations)
Participants will receive a manual that provides information/details:
- On developing critical thinking skills
- Higher-order questioning techniques
- Reflective writing/ journals in the science classroom
- For all the hands-on-minds-on investigations conducted throughout the workshop plus additional investigations
- Alternative assessment tips for inquiry-based science classrooms
- Literature references
Participants are asked to bring:
A pair of safety goggles ; A Microscope ; Blank notebook/journal
